Asbestos Testing & Removal in Clearwater

Renovating a home, cabin or business in Clearwater? We connect you with asbestos specialists who travel to the upper North Thompson.

Clearwater is further up the North Thompson on Highway 5, and it's the gateway to Wells Gray Provincial Park. Homeowners, cabin owners and businesses here have the same asbestos questions as anyone in an older building. The main difference is distance, so planning ahead matters more. We connect Clearwater-area property owners with specialists who serve the area.

Planning a job from a distance

  • Test early. Get the hazardous materials survey done before you book your contractor, plumber or electrician. Samples go to a lab, and the report tells everyone what they're dealing with.
  • Bundle the work. If you have several projects planned, such as a bathroom, flooring and an attic, ask the surveyor to cover all the areas in one visit.
  • Share the report. Give the survey report to the abatement contractor so the quote covers everything identified, and to the other trades so they know what to avoid.
  • Ask about travel up front. Travel charges and scheduling are set by each contractor.

Homes, cabins and tourism businesses

Older houses, cabins, motels, lodges and shops in the area can all contain asbestos materials such as drywall mud, textured ceilings, vinyl flooring, vermiculite and pipe insulation. If you run a business, you have duties as an employer as well as an owner, including having an inventory of asbestos-containing materials prepared by a qualified person before workers could be exposed. WorkSafeBC's homeowner guidance also applies to strata councils and property managers.

Disposal

The TNRD lists only two TNRD facilities that accept asbestos-containing material, the Heffley Creek and Lower Nicola Eco-Depots, and treats pre-1990 material as asbestos-containing unless lab results are provided. Your abatement contractor will normally handle disposal. See the TNRD asbestos page for current rules.

Kamloops Asbestos Removal is an independent referral service, not an asbestos contractor. Testing and removal are carried out by independent professionals, and abatement contractors must hold a valid WorkSafeBC Asbestos Abatement Licence. Availability, travel charges and scheduling are set by the contractor.

Clearwater asbestos FAQ

Is Clearwater too far for an asbestos contractor?
No. Asbestos abatement companies and hazardous materials consultants serve Clearwater. Because of the distance, expect the contractor to discuss travel and scheduling with you.
Can testing and removal be done in one trip?
Usually not, because samples have to be analysed by a lab before anyone can say what needs removing. You can save time by having the survey done early, before you book other trades, so the abatement work can be planned around it.
I run a motel or lodge. Do different rules apply?
Employers have their own duties. Under B.C.'s Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, where workers may be exposed to asbestos the employer needs an exposure control plan, and the employer and owner must have a qualified person prepare an inventory of asbestos-containing materials at the workplace.
